What’s New with Members:
-
Carol I attended the Lilly North Conference on College and University Teaching, a 4 day conference on “Best Practices Teaching, where she also learned how to organize conference notes. Carol is presenting “Moodle” at MACUL. We suggested she present this to our Let’s Talk group, too. She mentioned that REMC8 has a survey out looking for interest in having a Moodle Moot (conference) in Michigan. Check it out and take the survey at http://moodle.remc8.k12.mi.us/
-
Laura is an Educational Technology Consultant for Oakland County. (Is this a place Let’s Talk could visit?) She also noted that Jim Wenzloff is leaving the Macomb ISD to join Alan November’s organization. Laura is attending a symposium on Online Learning between now and the next meeting.
-
Sue M. joined the Tech and Learning Committee in Royal Oak and she is investigating linking individual classrooms and working with online calendars.
-
Chris is going to email Let’s Talk members resources for struggling student researchers from a presentation by Dave Edyburn. Chris attended his presentations at “Closing the Gap” conference in Minneapolis. She is also going to include her notes from the conference session.
-
Bob, now an IT consultant at Ford, suggested reading the book “The World is Flat” by Thomas Friedman. Bob has been using MS NetMeeting where workers collaborate and share a desktop. They use VOIP for voice with this program.
-
Angie suggested that DogPile is a better search engine for finding phrases. This is a useful tool for helping teachers find student plagiarism. Angie discussed the need for vocational tech alternative classes being available for students not involved in traditional academics. She will be presenting “Tools for Leaders in Technology” at MACUL. Angie also showed us how to access the Technology Professional Development on the ASH website faculty page. There are workshop links and handouts for every workshop they have had since 2002. It also includes “How to’s” for Office 2007.
Business
Carol I confirmed Jeff Crocket from Plymouth Canton as our February speaker on the topic of '"Access for All" aproject involving Universal Design for Learning in the P-CCS district.
The next meeting will be December 1 at ASH. Camille and Mary Jeanne will bring the treats. (Bob and Carol K. offered to bring treats in January)
Topic: Web 2.0 members recommend their favorite sites (meeting fee for non-members $5)
Speaker
Angie showed us how to use Microsoft PhotoStory 3, a free downloadable program if you are a licensed with Microsoft. It is a very powerful program that easily creates sophisticated shows with your pictures. Angie also demonstrated Picasa, another free program, that helps you find, edit and share all the photos on your PC. All agreed Angie provided us with some great material.
